Give Me 88 Keys And I’ll Be Happy

One of my stranger musical foibles – Yes, that’s right, I said foibles – is for piano-led snark. There’s something about someone with a piano being smart and sarcastic (Or, hell, just sarcastic sometimes) that wins me over without reason; maybe it’s some subliminated desire to be able to play the piano myself, or maybe I missed my calling and this is some kind of unconscious calling to my Earth-2 lifestyle, but I’m a sucker for Randy Newman, Nellie McKay or Ben Folds when they’re on the top of their game. Admittedly, all three have a tendency towards self-indulgence that makes their albums scary and offputting to those with higher standards than I, but still. Who can’t love this kind of thing?
